Session Four:
Demonstration in Proficiency in Methods and Skills of Dialogue Therapy and Real Dialogue

Participants will be able to… 

  1. Define “psychological and spiritual development” in the practice of Real Dialogue and Dialogue Therapy.

  2. Explain the role of the Three C’s: Commitment, Containment, and Constraint in relationships.

  3. Analyze the significance of individuation in effective communication.

  4. Demonstrate competency in the three skills of Real Dialogue.

  5. Assess the impact of the mindset established in Real Dialogue and Dialogue Therapy on ongoing development at the conclusion of treatment.

  6. Demonstrate competency in the therapeutic methods of doubling, coaching, inquiry, and unblocking in practice sessions.

  7. Evaluate the clinical implications of the pacing, intensity, and repetition of interventions in the progress of the treatment.

  8. Participate in and evaluate a live demonstration of a Role Reversal.

  9. Utilize appropriate strategies for addressing difficult couple issues such as infidelity, individual psychopathology, and violence.

  10. Identify and explain when couples should separate and other contraindications for Dialogue Therapy.

  11. Identify and explain pitfalls couples experience in applying Dialogue Therapy methods outside the consulting room and strategies for addressing these problems.

  12. Evaluate when to extend the time limits of Dialogue Therapy to address specific clinical issues.

  13. List the five psychological principles that will help couples to achieve and maintain Real Dialogue post-termination.

  14. Identify what to look for in the follow-up session to confirm therapy has been successful.
